Ancient Egypt

l  What do you think of "Ancient Egypt", good topic?

This is a good topic for me. Because I want to travel a historical place in Egypt, where are famous for a great scale of Pyramid and unique shape of Sphinx. So this journey is listed up in my bucket list. However Egypt is not familiar place for me. I have my own “RULE” about traveling; People should study culture and history before departing to their destination, even though an itinerary is short one. Actually, now I don’t have any information about Egypt, so it was a good chance to prepare my travel to Egypt. Let’s read it again, and move!

l  How is it similar to our generation now?

I think it is totally different from now. Here are two opinions why I’m thinking this way. One is the class of society. In Korea, we don’t have king and we are not divided people into social grade, it means we are in the same, and equal. So we don’t need to admire and make sacrifice for one people. Because the size of tomb is symbol of power, that’s why we don’t have such a big tomb in modern generation. Second is difference of religions. Normally tomb is affected by culture and religions. When pyramid was built, Egyptians believed the world after death and sun as a got. They thought the class was the same in spite of death as well. That’s why they buried too many items to use in the new world after death; according to grade they had different scald of burials. However now we have several religions, and belief of the world after death is up to people, it is not strict concept (or rule) of country. Moreover we don’t have enough space of land for tomb, and we pursue what the most convenient thing is. Those factors have been made differences between before and after.

(One of our dynasty, we also had buried burials of the living with the dead)

l  What is your opinion about the topic?

In this book, it’s a good chance to think about people. Do you know how long it takes to build and how many people (slaves) are attributed to make it? The number of people and an amount of slaves’ effort are well high than your expectation. So I feel very sad when I imagine how they are hard and tired to bring huge blocks and pile it up. Based on this situation, why should they bear the heat and disgusting situation only they are poor and the lowest class?

Also I learn that people has a no limitation. Pyramid is one of mystery heritage in the whole world and it is famous for creativeness and strong structure, and it was made by people. One more thing is that it is safe from thieves. Until now there is no one who stills the items. It means people are still not solving the key of structure even if it was made by people. So I think Egyptian is really smart and claver.

l  How is it similar to our generation now?

I think we have similarity about “sincerity”:  It can be expressed the meaning of word as emotion. Have you ever read or seen the movie “The fault in our stars”? Their main content is death and love. There is memorable speech of heroine is that a funeral is not for a death but the living people. It means people give our condolences in a funeral and console themselves, because we are live, so we should keep going on our life. And then, I think this is not unchangeable forever. That’s why we say to death people and their family “May be rest in peace” with sincerity.

l  How is it similar or different to our generation now?

(The topic is similar to upper two questions, so I want to say briefly.)

There are changes about tangible factors, because we are still changing and developing. For example the rules, existence of social class, shape of tomb, a spot of great belief, and items for living, and so on. However surprisingly the mind of people are unchangeable, it can be expressed intangible factor. That’s why we are still pray for and condole on a death. Even though the king was bad and violence, people want to say peace in the heaven, and feel sad your absentness.

l  Summarization of today’s topic.

This story starts from history of Egyptians and unique shape of structure looking like a triangular prism. The Egyptians believed there was a life after death, so they tried to bury lots of items what a death needed to live in the death life. More interesting story is they thought the class of social would be the same even the people died. This being so, the tomb of kings and queens are so fancy and there are lots of expensive, high quality burials until now. And we call the kings tomb, Pyramid.

How they kept their life after death, and what Egyptians did express their belief? They made a special thing “MUMMY”. It preserves people by twisting with bandages, and it was symbol of connection between sky and people. After finishing previous step, they buried in the Pyramid. This was built by a millions of people who were normally slaves, and it took a long time to build up. It is the great size and mystery tomb actually. Even though it had been built by people, descendants couldn’t believe that how they could be built by hand.

And books tell me the more interesting story. Pyramids are until safe from thieves because of unique design of structure, and there is sphinx as a symbol of solar god(?).
